This Privacy Policy (the "Policy") describes the types of information MakerVault ("Company", "us", "we", or "our") may collect from you when you use the MakerVault desktop application, visit our website at makervaultapp.com (the "Website"), or use any related products, materials, and services (collectively, the "Services"). This Policy also describes our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

By accessing or using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Policy. If you do not agree, you should refrain from using the Services.

Overview

MakerVault is a local-first desktop application. Your design files, tags, notes, and metadata are stored entirely on your computer. We do not collect, transmit, or have access to your files or the data you create within the application. This Policy covers the limited information we do collect through licensing, our website, and communications with you.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy on this page and update the "Effective Date" above. Your continued use of the Services after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy. Please review this page periodically for updates.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

License activation: When you activate a license key, we verify it with our licensing provider (LemonSqueezy). This transmits your license key and a device identifier (your computer's hostname and operating system). No file data is sent.
Contact form: If you contact us through our website, we receive the information you submit (such as your name, email address, and message).
Newsletter: If you subscribe to our newsletter or Windows launch notification, we collect your email address through our email service provider.
Purchase information: When you purchase MakerVault, payment is processed by LemonSqueezy. We receive your name, email address, and transaction details, but we do not collect or store your credit card or payment method details.

Information Collected Automatically

Update checks: MakerVault periodically checks for software updates via GitHub Releases. No personal data is sent during this check.
Website analytics: Our website may use basic analytics to understand traffic patterns. This may include your IP address, browser type, and pages visited.

Your design files or their contents
Your tags, notes, or metadata created within the application
Usage analytics or telemetry from the desktop application
Browsing or search history within the application
Location information

How We Use Your Information

We may use the information we collect for the following purposes:

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

LemonSqueezy: Payment processing and license management. Subject to LemonSqueezy's privacy policy.
GitHub: Software update distribution via GitHub Releases.
Email service provider: If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored with our email service provider for the purpose of sending you communications.
Legal requirements: To comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including responding to any government or regulatory request.
Protection of rights: If we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or others.
Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Data Storage and Security

All application data (file index, tags, notes, sources, preferences) is stored in a local SQLite database on your computer. We have no access to this data.

For the limited information we do collect (license data, contact information), we take reasonable precautions to protect it. We have implemented technical, physical, and administrative security measures designed to reduce the risk of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, or modification. However, no system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and any transmission of personal information is at your own risk.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. License activation records are retained for the duration of your license. Contact form submissions and email subscriptions are retained until you request removal.

Your Choices

Newsletter: You may unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time by following the opt-out instructions in the email or by contacting us.
License deactivation: You may deactivate your license from within the application at any time, which removes the device association from our licensing provider.
Data deletion: You may request deletion of your personal information by contacting us at hello@makervaultapp.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

The Services are not intended for children under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.

Do Not Track Signals

Some web browsers have a "Do Not Track" feature. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track browser signals.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), provides you with additional rights regarding your personal information:

Right to know: You have the right to request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
Right to delete: You have the right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
Right to correct: You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information.

Right to data portability: You have the right to obtain a copy of your personal data in a portable format.
